Reporting Violence against Women and Girls II

Holistic Resilience: Psychological care for journalists

Hearing and sharing the stories of people who have suffered Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) requires empathy. In the words of Emmet Fitzgerald, “Empathy is a finite resource; YOU CAN RUN OUT!” What happens when you run out? Compassion fatigue sets in. What does this mean for you? Increased stress levels, burnout, social withdrawal and isolation, insomnia, flashbacks and nightmares, headaches, and secondary trauma, among other symptoms.

This course is designed to make you more resilient and equip you with psychological tools to help you navigate your work better, be more effective at work, and eliminate or greatly reduce your risk for compassion fatigue and other physical, psychosomatic and mental disorders. It is also designed to foster financial resilience.

The course includes eight modules on developing psychological and financial resilience, Psychological First Aid (PFA), trauma and post-trauma growth, becoming a mental health champion, understanding wellness and well-being, designing and implementing a wellness recovery plan, choosing and starting your business, successfully pitching for clients and commercializing your VAWG stories.
